The Hanle Observatory, operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, is one of the highest observatories in the world and attracts astronomers and astrophotographers from around the globe.

Nubra Valley

Located in the northernmost part of the Indian union territory of Ladakh, Nubra Valley is a high-altitude cold desert renowned for its breathtaking landscapes. The valley is characterized by vast stretches of sand dunes, picturesque villages, and lush green oases created by the meandering Shyok and Nubra rivers. Popular attractions in Nubra Valley include the sand dunes of Hunder, where tourists can enjoy camel safaris, and the ancient Diskit Monastery, which offers panoramic views of the valley.

Thiksey Monastery

Located approximately 19 kilometers east of Leh, the capital of Ladakh, Thiksey Monastery is one of the most prominent and picturesque monasteries in the region. Perched atop a hill, Thiksey Monastery resembles the famous Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, due to its architectural style. The monastery complex houses numerous prayer halls, stupas, and other religious structures adorned with vibrant murals, thangkas (Tibetan silk paintings), and statues of Buddhist deities. One of the highlights of visiting Thiksey Monastery is witnessing the morning prayers and rituals performed by the monks, as well as enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape from the monastery's vantage points.
