Key Places
Hanle
Hanle is a remote village nestled in the eastern part of Ladakh, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. Situated at an altitude of over 4,500 meters, Hanle is known for its clear skies and minimal light pollution, making it an ideal location for stargazing and astronomical observations. The Hanle Observatory, operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, is one of the highest observatories in the world and attracts astronomers and astrophotographers from around the globe.
Nubra Valley
Located in the northernmost part of the Indian union territory of Ladakh, Nubra Valley is a high-altitude cold desert renowned for its breathtaking landscapes. The valley is characterized by vast stretches of sand dunes, picturesque villages, and lush green oases created by the meandering Shyok and Nubra rivers. Popular attractions in Nubra Valley include the sand dunes of Hunder, where tourists can enjoy camel safaris, and the ancient Diskit Monastery, which offers panoramic views of the valley.
Thiksey Monastery
Located approximately 19 kilometers east of Leh, the capital of Ladakh, Thiksey Monastery is one of the most prominent and picturesque monasteries in the region. Perched atop a hill, Thiksey Monastery resembles the famous Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, due to its architectural style. The monastery complex houses numerous prayer halls, stupas, and other religious structures adorned with vibrant murals, thangkas (Tibetan silk paintings), and statues of Buddhist deities.
Pangong Lake
Pangong Tso, commonly referred to as Pangong Lake, is a stunning high-altitude lake situated at an elevation of about 4,350 meters in the Ladakh region of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The lake stretches across approximately 134 kilometers, extending from India to Tibet (China). Its crystal-clear blue waters against the backdrop of rugged mountains create a mesmerizing sight. Pangong Lake gained international fame after being featured in the popular Bollywood film "3 Idiots."

Can we bring our own vehicle?
Yes, you can bring along your vehicle but please make sure it is a SUV vechile because driving in spiti valley can be a challege in sedan or hatchback. Also, all fuel expences should be taken by the owner themselves.
What activities we will doing from Astronomy aspect of the rally?
We will be watching milky way galaxy, stars, nebulas and so on from telescopes
We will be hearing facts about universe with interesting stories
Experts of astronomy field from india will be with us to make the astronomy very interesting
What range of temperature will be experience from day to night?
Because it is a high altitude desert, the weather in Spiti can be quite extreme with conditions varying from bright, hot sunshine to sudden snow in the higher passes as early as September! In general though, the summer season (May - Oct) is a perfect time to visit with temperatures rarely exceeding 20-25 centigrade by day and cooling off to a comfortable 18 to 20 by night. During the winter months between November and April the temperature dips to as low as -12 to -22 degrees centigrade and reaches a maximum of 11 to 13 degrees in the sun. In Summer from May to October the temperature can soar up to 29 degrees in the day and at night, the temperature drops to between 2 and 12 degrees centigrade.
